Throughout its long history, the convention has been a hub for joy and self-realization, making GothCon an important part of Gothenburg's cultural life.
Starting in 1977, we are 30 years older than Way Out West; 14 years older than Göteborgskalaset; three years older than Göteborgsvarvet; two years older than Gothenburg Film Festival; and two years younger than Gothia Cup and Bokmässan.
To consistently manage to be a recurring factor in the events calendar, as reliable as the sunrise — an event that happens every year regardless of rain, sleet, storm or abrasion, despite being run entirely by non-profit forces, is remarkable.
How? Well, by being a part of people's hearts. By being a ball of yarn of connections, memories and identity for those who run this machinery. It's a shrimp sandwich so luxurious that you are enchanted by the thought of sharing it.
To emphasize this, we want to share stories from all 50 years that GothCon has been a part of people's hearts. We have created a form where you and our other visitors can submit a memory, a story, pictures, or anything else you want to share to celebrate the convention. The material will then be shared across our digital and possibly also physical channels.
More information is available in the form!

It's getting to be time for the most dedicated of us to wake up from our slumber, roll up our sleeves, look deep within ourselves (preferably without falling into the abyss) and create the next Monet in the form of this year's GothCon program.
So what's good to have when designing an event? Swipe to see what's in demand in our visitor survey.
The date for when registration opens will be announced shortly.

It hangs in the closet. That white shirt. Every Easter I put it on, and then something awakens in me that nothing else in my closet awakens.
I become stronger, part of something bigger. When I see what the other shirts are doing, I suddenly feel more capable — because I know that another shirt is standing next to me and feels the same way.
GothCon is an association run by completely non-profit forces. The shirt is a symbol of that power and what is possible if you share an interest and are ready to do your best for all visitors, organizers and everyone else who longs for GothCon every year.
In an era where community life and non-profits are no longer as obvious, I proudly put on that shirt every Easter and show what you can do together if you are passionate about something.
Do you want to organize an event for several thousand visitors, and discover that you also have that power? Then there is a white shirt waiting for you! Get in touch with personal@gothcon.se and tell us about yourself.

Today we want to highlight Emma, who has worked as a judge for Mindstage since 2018.
She travels to GothGon from Skåne and is part of a group of judges who help during the big tournament in Magic: The Gathering — one of GothGon's biggest draws.
Magic is a game that has been around since the 90s and is regularly in constant change.
As a judge, you make sure the competition runs smoothly, do deck checks for participants, and monitor the games. In addition to the events, your job also includes doing research, following updates from Mindstage, and attending conferences and workshops.
She describes the refereeing job as social and being part of a tight-knit community.
This is not only a volunteer job, but also provides some compensation.
Contact Mindstage if you are interested in becoming a judge! info@mindstage.com
The Magic tournament for the Swedish champion is a highlight that always returns to GothGon, and even if you don't participate in the tournament, it's still a good idea to stop by and take part in the excitement.
