What is GothCon?
GothCon is one of Sweden's largest gaming conventions and, having started in 1977, is also the oldest. Every year, over 2,000 visitors are attracted to the convention to celebrate Easter with traditional games in all their forms – role-playing games, board games, card games, miniature games, lairs and the like. GothCon takes place in central Gothenburg every Easter and anyone can visit the convention, although we recommend that our visitors under the age of 15 come accompanied by an adult. The convention is completely drug-free.
The convention is held at Hvitfeldtska Gymnasium and the surrounding area.
Who makes the convention?
The convention is organized by the GothCon Association. The association consists of a staff divided into different groups. The staff consists of about 40 people from all over the country who work with GothCon year-round, completely volunteering.
We also receive help from a large number of organizers who arrange various forms of games or other activities. In addition, we also receive a lot of help from our officials who help during the convention with everything from leading role-playing sessions to manning the reception. A staff member is part of the GothCon staff, which is developed by the Board. They often have responsibility for a specific area of the convention. Anyone can join the staff, but it requires commitment and work both before, during and after the convention. Neither the staff nor the board receive any salary for their work with GothCon, but it is done on a voluntary basis.
Work areas
Arrangement
The event group receives and organizes our organizers who fill the convention with activity.
Visitor service
Visitor Services receives and takes care of our visitors and volunteer staff.
Staff service
Staff service ensures that everything is in place for the staff when the convention takes place and that our staff has everything they need.
Information/Communication
The info group handles external information before and during the convention, including everything from the website, social media, maps, schedules and other signage.
Local
The local group ensures that we have all the facilities we need for the convention in dialogue with the schools and the municipality. They ensure that the facilities are unlocked, cleaned and available when they are needed. The group also plans how the facilities will be used during the convention in dialogue with the event group.
Money
The money group handles the convention's finances.
Serving
The catering team prepares, serves, and sells food to all hungry convention attendees.
